All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State ‘Sinking’, Says Stakeholders
A group of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has raised alarm, warning that the state chapter of the party is on the verge of collapse. According to the stakeholders, who are part of the Tinubu/Shettima Foundation, disunity within the party and disregard for faithful members by the leaders are major factors contributing to its downfall.
The foundation held its general meeting in Yola, the state capital, on Saturday, where members from the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State decried the party’s disunity and stressed the need for intervention to prevent its disintegration. Media Talk Africa reports that disunity was cited as a major factor in the party’s loss of the governorship seat in the state in 2019, after previously producing the governor between 2015 and 2019.
Alhaji Yahaya Hammanjulde, chairman of the Tinubu/Shettima Foundation, made a stark warning, saying that many party members in the state may be forced to leave for another party unless the party’s anomalies are addressed. Hammanjulde pointed out that anti-party activities are prevalent in the party, even among the leadership, and that faithful members are often viewed with disdain.
“It is very clear that this party is sinking,” Hammanjulde said. “We are now in a sinking boat and if the stakeholders do not come to rescue us, the boat will sink very soon.” The stakeholders are urging prompt intervention to salvage the party before it’s too late.
