Nigeria’s Rubber Industry Summit: Unlocking Economic Growth and Sustainability

Nigerian Rubber Industry Set for Revitalization at World Summit

The World Rubber Summit is set to arrive in Abuja, Nigeria, next month, bringing together investors and international rubber experts to rejuvenate the country’s rubber industry. The three-day event is scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, where President Bola Tinubu will declare the conference open.

The summit offers a unique opportunity for governors of Nigeria’s natural rubber-producing states, especially those in the southern region, to engage with stakeholders and explore ways to boost their local economies and create jobs. According to Minister of Industries, Trade, and Investments Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, the federal government secured the hosting rights because the rubber industry is critical to the country’s economic mainstay.

Usen Umoh, the national vice president of the National Rubber Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NARPPMAN) for the South-South, has appealed to governors to attend the summit. He emphasized that the event provides an unparalleled opportunity to rejuvenate the rubber industry, fostering economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social progress in the region.

According to Umoh, rubber plantations contribute to carbon sequestration, enabling them to combat climate change and promote ecological balance. He also highlighted the importance of participating in the summit, as it will allow rubber-producing states to adopt sustainable practices and enhance their commitment to environmental conservation.

In view of the harsh economic times, Umoh urged the revitalization of the rubber industry to improve the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and their families.

The World Rubber Summit is an attractive opportunity for Nigeria’s rubber-producing governors to engage with global leaders and industry experts and explore the latest advancements and opportunities in the sector. With its significant export potential, Nigeria’s rubber industry has the potential to drive growth and development in the country.
