Kamala Harris Gains Support Amid Backlash as Lizzo and Cardi B Speak Out

In a surprise move, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, paving the way for her to become the Democratic front-runner. Amid the backlash, several high-profile celebrities have come out in support of Harris, including Lizzo and Cardi B.

In a video shared on Monday, Lizzo called out critics who claim Harris “did nothing” during her time as Vice President. “For everyone saying that Kamala Harris didn’t do anything when she was VP, please, for $5,000, do not use Google, tell me what any vice president has ever done during their term that was notable that you noticed,” Lizzo stated.

Lizzo also compared Harris’s role to that of Joe Biden, who was criticized for being a “do-nothing” vice president. “It’s funny because when Joe Biden was VP, the only things I really remember him doing was making cool videos with Barack Obama, but when he ran for president, I didn’t hear that same, ‘He didn’t do anything when he was VP’ from people. So I wonder why y’all are saying it now,” Lizzo said.

Cardi B, another prominent supporter, also weighed in on the matter. “Been told y’all Kamala should’ve been the 2024 candidate. Y’all be trying to play the Bronx education, baby this what I do!!! Been my passion.. don’t let my accent fool y’all,” Cardi B quipped.

Following Biden’s resignation and intention to serve out the rest of his term, Harris released a statement regarding her campaign. “On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” she wrote.

Since then, Harris has raised over $50 million in donations, marking a significant milestone in her campaign. As the Democratic primary season heats up, it remains to be seen whether Harris will be able to overcome the challenges ahead and secure the nomination.
