Maiduguri, Nigeria – The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, has handed over the latest rescued Chibok Girl, Ihyi Abdu, to the Borno Government. This marks the 19th Chibok girl to be rescued through direct military operations.
At a handing ceremony on Monday in Maiduguri, Shuaibu highlighted the significance of the rescue, saying that the Theatre will continue to work tirelessly to rescue the remaining Chibok girls in captivity, in line with the strategic guidance of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff.
According to the Acting General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Maiduguri, Brig.-Gen. AGL Haruna, Ihyi was rescued on June 23 with two children during an operation within Sambisa forest.
The 27-year-old, a Kibaku tribeswoman and Muslim, was serial number 67 on the list of abducted Chibok girls published by the Federal Government in 2014. During her time in captivity, she was forcefully married to one Abu Darda at Gwoza town in 2014 and later got married to other terrorists who were neutralised by troops.
Prior to her rescue, Ihyi was married to one Bana and resided with him and their children in Garin Mustapha, Njimiya, Sambisa forest. At the time of her rescue, she was three months pregnant.
