Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s Rivalry Continues in New Video Game

The battle for hip-hop supremacy continues, with fans of rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar engaging in an all-out war of words – in the form of a new video game.

An X (formerly Twitter) account shared the game, called “Family Matters”, which is an interactive challenge to shoot Grammy awards into K. Dot’s mouth, matching lyrics from Drizzy’s song of the same name. As players progress through the game, the goal becomes increasingly challenging, with K. Dot’s head moving from side to side.

The game’s credits state, “Made by some real ones to prove a point”, taking aim at the “Not Like Us” game created by Kendrick Lamar, which recently debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

One fan quipped, “If Drake’s Family Matters was the kill shot, why is it off the music charts but Not Like Us is #1??” While another wrote, “Nah this is hilarious whoever made this.” Lamar detractors have long claimed that the Compton rapper’s YouTube views and streams have been artificially boosted using bots, so this game likely has a personal agenda.

On the X account, the game’s developers said, “Let’s see if Complex, XXL and all other sites run with the Family Matters Game like they did the other game.” The move, in true Drake-Kendrick fashion, sparked a mixed response among fans.

To put it in perspective, Drake’s Family Matters was released exclusively on YouTube in May, featuring three-part tracks with jabs at Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, and A$AP Rocky. Despite debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song failed to stay in the top 10. On the other hand, “Not Like Us” debuted at number one and recently reclaimed the top spot.

Only time will tell if this heated video game rivalry continues to fuel the intense feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, their respective fan bases, and ultimately the music industry at large.
