Police Chief Credits Decline in Crime Rates to Effective Strategies
Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has attributed the decline in crime rates across the country to the effective strategies deployed by the police in recent months.
According to Egbetokun, major crimes dropped to 416 in the last one month, a significant decline from the 734 and 530 reported in May and June, respectively. The police chief made this announcement during a meeting with Commissioners of Police in Abuja on Tuesday.
Egbetokun commended the passion and commitment of the police personnel, stating that their efforts have yielded significant results across the nation. He noted that the decline in crime rates is a clear indication of the stability of the internal security order in the country.
In addition to the decline in major crimes, the police also recorded notable successes in the fight against criminal activities. Egbetokun revealed that the police arrested a total of 1,284 individuals nationwide, recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 ammunition rounds, 107 vehicles, and rescued 97 kidnapped victims.
The police chief also highlighted the achievements of the special task force on petroleum, which has been combating the menace of oil theft in Nigeria. The task force has arrested suspects and recovered exhibits, with most cases already in court for timely dispensation of justice.
Egbetokun emphasized that the achievements are a testament to the cooperation and collaboration between the police and the public, as well as other security agencies. He commended the dedication and professionalism of the police personnel, stating that their efforts have contributed significantly to the decline in crime rates.
