Breaking News: Kunle Afolayan’s “Anikulapo” Heads to Ghana for Filming

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, is set to shoot parts of his highly anticipated series, “Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre”, in Ghana. The announcement was made by Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority, who expressed the country’s excitement to host the international production.

Afolayan, known for his critically acclaimed films, including “October 1” and “The Bridge”, revealed his plans to film in Ghana in May 2024. Since then, he has been spotted scouting locations in the West African country, sharing photos on social media.

Asante, in an Instagram post, wrote, “Ghana is calling on the world to come and shoot in Ghana and capture the very beautiful sceneries and facilities Ghana has in their movies.” The post was captioned “Ghana is open for business”, hinting at the country’s desire to become a hub for international film production.

The series, which is a sequel to the 2022 Netflix original film, “Anikulapo”, follows the resurrection of Saro, who continues his dubious ways, and Arolake, who becomes a wealthy woman but makes new powerful enemies. The cast for the series includes a talented ensemble of Nigerian actors, including Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, and more.

Ghana’s film industry has been on the rise in recent years, with productions like “Beasts of No Nation” and “The Burial of Kojo” gaining international recognition. The country’s stunning landscapes, diverse culture, and favorable filming conditions make it an attractive location for international filmmakers.
