Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim Meets with President Bola Tinubu Amidst Party Switch
Abuja, Nigeria – In a sudden move, former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. The meeting followed Anyim’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Accompanying Anyim to the meeting were Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru. The development sparked interest among political observers, especially given Anyim’s background in leading the Senate and his association with the PDP in the past.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the former SGF explained that he switched parties to contribute his quota towards Nigeria’s development. Anyim emphasized the need for collective effort to move the country forward, stating, “There is a need that we all should put hands together to move the country forward.”
The former president also clarified that contributing to national progress does not necessarily mean taking on a specific role or position, but rather to create an environment conducive to advancement. He expressed his determination to contribute to the country’s growth, reiterating that he is not seeking to engage in specific work.
As Nigeria grapples with numerous challenges, including the current economic situation, Anyim emphasized the importance of putting all hands together to overcome these obstacles. In his words, “The country is passing through turbulent times and it is the duty of all patriots to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.”
The meeting between Anyim and President Tinubu marks another significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, signaling a potential shift in the country’s dynamics. As the nation continues to navigate these times, it remains to be seen what specific role Anyim will play in his new party and how his presence may impact the country’s trajectory.
