Building Collapse in Lagos: Three Site Workers Killed, Two Rescued Alive

A devastating building collapse in the Arowojobe Estate, Maryland area of Lagos State, has claimed the lives of three site workers. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Thursday, and has launched a search and rescue operation to locate any other potential survivors.

According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received a distress call regarding the collapsed building at around 3:49 am. The response team was activated immediately, and upon arrival, it was discovered that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed.

Three adult males were recovered dead, while two male adults were rescued alive and one adult male trapped under the rubble was also rescued. The rescued individuals are receiving pre-hospital care on site, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit has been contacted to handle the remains of the three fatalities.

A combined team of agency personnel, fire service, and Nigeria Police are working at the scene to accelerate the search and rescue operations. LASEMA’s excavator has been deployed to aid in the search efforts.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring building safety and adhering to construction regulations to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
