Nigerian Striker Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi Joins Belgian Club Oud-Heverlee Leuven

In a significant transfer move, Nigerian forward Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi has signed a permanent deal with Belgian Pro League outfit Oud-Heverlee Leuven. The 22-year-old striker has joined Leuven from Serie B side Salernitana, penning a three-year contract worth €1.8 million.

Ikwuemesi, who wore the number 9 jersey at Salernitana, will don the number 19 jersey at his new club. The Nigerian international expressed his excitement after putting pen to paper, stating that Leuven is the right club for him. “I will give everything for this shirt because I felt welcome here right away. The people within the club give me a lot of confidence, so I want to repay them with victories and goals,” he said in an interview with Leuven’s official website.

During his time at Salernitana, Ikwuemesi scored three goals and provided two assists in 27 appearances. The striker’s arrival is expected to bolster Leuven’s attacking options, and fans are eagerly anticipating his debut.

With this move, Ikwuemesi becomes the latest Nigerian player to join the Belgian Pro League, following in the footsteps of players like Dennis Bonaventure and Emmanuel Dennis. As Leuven looks to build on their impressive 2022-23 season, Ikwuemesi’s signing is a significant coup for the club.
