Kendrick Lamar Teams Up with Tanna Leone in Latest Hip-Hop Teaser
Hip-hop fans have been eagerly waiting to see what’s next for Kendrick Lamar after his recent victory in the ongoing feud with Drake. It seems like the Compton rapper has dropped a major hint, collaborating with PgLang artist Tanna Leone on a new track titled “Peter Pan.”
Leone shared a 30-second snippet of the song on Instagram, which features him rapping alongside K. Dot. The track showcases Leone’s storytelling skills, with bars that highlight his personality and lifestyle. Lamar, being the seasoned artist he is, throws in some ad-libs at the end of Leone’s verses before delivering his own or the song’s hook.
The snippet also features a glimpse into Leone’s mindset, as he laments about the pressure of keeping up with the game and the constant scrutiny from fans. His lyrics read: “This not for the cameras, this not for the cameras / You know Leone, when I’m back home, it’s just Santana / Two tinkerbells, you know I’m ’bout to Peter Pan / Yeah my body tatted, hair’s plat’d, mud walkin’ / Attorneys and accountants, both my plugs talkin’ / I signed my deal and bought my whip and wrecked my whip / Now the label think I’m on some wreckless sh*t.”
On Twitter, Leone shared his thoughts on teasing his own music, writing, “Apparently I’m a ‘bad person’ for teasing my own sht, the game ain’t what it used to be.” He later followed up with a message about bringing back mixtape culture, stating, “Let’s bring mixtape culture back. Free sht. Gratís.”
Kendrick Lamar and Tanna Leone previously collaborated on the song “Mr. Morale” from Lamar’s 2022 LP “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.” The rapper hasn’t released a new album since then, but made his grand return to the hip-hop scene in March with Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which targeted Drake and J. Cole, sparking a major rap beef.
Over the next two months, Lamar and Leone went back and forth, culminating in Lamar’s No. 1 record “Not Like Us.” The rapper performed the song five times at his Juneteenth concert, “The Pop Out,” and shared the music video on July 4. Watch it below:
