Buni Yadi Market Explosion: Girl Injured in IED Blast

Explosion Rocks Buni Yadi Market in Yobe State, Girl Injured

A devastating explosion has occurred at the popular Buni Yadi market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving a girl injured. The incident, suspected to be caused by a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED), happened at around 12:30 pm on Friday.

According to Channels Television, a resident of Buni, Ali Hassan, reported that the explosion occurred at the market, injuring a girl. The name of the girl and her current state of health have yet to be known.

Captain Muhammad Shehu, the spokesman of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incident, stating that another IED planted in the market was discovered and successfully defused by the Army. He further explained that the only victim of the explosion is currently receiving treatment at one of the health facilities in Buni Yadi.

Captain Shehu stressed that the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing incident. Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, was the most severely affected local government area in Yobe State during the two years it was under Boko Haram insurgent control.

The incident has raised concerns about the ongoing security challenges in the region. The authorities are working to identify the perpetrators and prevent future attacks.
