Kwara State Governor Calls for Peace and Stability Ahead of Nationwide Protests

As the planned nationwide protests from August 1-10, 2024, approach, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has urged the people of his state to maintain peace and stability. In a statement issued by his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor emphasized that the people of Kwara are known for their peaceful and thoughtful nature, and he is confident that they will avoid any actions that may disrupt the peace of the state or cause destruction of lives and businesses.

The governor’s statement comes as a response to the planned protests, which are aimed at addressing the economic challenges facing the country. AbdulRazaq acknowledged that many citizens are concerned about the economic situation and want faster actions to ease the situation. However, he emphasized that the worst thing that can happen at this time is for the people to adopt actions that may worsen the situation, especially for businesses or public infrastructure.

AbdulRazaq drew attention to the lessons learned from the ENDSARS protest, which he described as a “horror” that was used as a smokescreen to loot properties, businesses, and attack innocent citizens. He expressed his understanding that many citizens are eager for change, but urged them to avoid any actions that may end in collective regret, loss of lives, or destruction of their common patrimony.

The governor commended the different stakeholders in the state, including community associations, for mobilizing for peace and stability. He emphasized that the challenges facing the state and the country will not disappear when people turn against each other, but rather, they will be better discussed and resolved in an atmosphere of peace and stability.

As the nation prepares for the protests, AbdulRazaq’s call for peace and stability is a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining harmony and avoiding destructive actions. The governor’s statement serves as a reminder that the path to progress and development is not through violence and destruction, but rather through peaceful and constructive engagement.
