Southern Kaduna People’s Union Disassociates from Planned National Protest
The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has announced its disassociation from the planned national protest on August 1, while condemning the motive behind it. The union made this declaration during a press briefing in Kaduna on Friday.
According to the president of SOKAPU, Tabara Kato, the union believes that a well-intentioned protest cannot originate from people who previously claimed that "religion, ethnicity, and tribe forbid protests against leaders." Kato also reasoned that "only people who don’t think embark on a journey to a destination they cannot predict."
The SOKAPU president added that it is more reasonable and meaningful to remain where they are and manage what they know in order to get what they need. He expressed hope for improvement in the current situation, stating that there is respite from insecurity.
Kato emphasized that the governments at both federal and state levels are operating a policy of inclusiveness, which marks a clear departure from the past governments. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for finding SOKAPU members worthy to work with him in salvaging Nigeria, citing specific examples of collaboration.
Furthermore, Kato expressed gratitude to Tinubu for supporting Sen Sunday Marshall-Katung’s lobby for a Federal University in Southern Kaduna. He stated that SOKAPU is looking forward to seeing this project become a reality and is willing to work with anyone who desires to make Kaduna State and Nigeria peaceful and great.
In conclusion, SOKAPU’s decision to disassociate from the planned national protest reflects its commitment to peaceful coexistence and its willingness to work with the government to achieve positive change.
