Fuel Shortage Hits Nigeria: NNPC Blames Vessel Discharge Issues

A fuel shortage has gripped parts of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving motorists and commuters stranded. According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), the tightness in fuel supply and distribution is caused by a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., made the statement on Saturday in response to the current queues and scarcity being witnessed in some areas. The queues started building up at fuel stations in the FCT on Friday, with motorists lining up at various fuel stations and some stations remaining shut.

NNPC Ltd. is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations. Soneye emphasized that the Company is committed to ensuring a stable and consistent supply of fuel to the country.

The Nigerian government has been facing challenges in maintaining a steady supply of fuel in recent times, leading to widespread scarcity and frustration among citizens. This latest development is likely to exacerbate the situation, causing further inconvenience to motorists and commuters.
