Nigeria Boosts Border Security Ahead of Nationwide Protests

The Nigerian government has taken a proactive measure to ensure the country’s security by tightening its borders ahead of a planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, announced the move in a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, on Saturday in Abuja.

According to Nandap, all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOS) across the country have been directed to be extra vigilant and intensify surveillance. The directive aims to prevent foreign elements from entering the country to participate in the protests.

Nandap emphasized the importance of safeguarding the nation’s gateways, stating that officers, especially Heads of Border Commands, must rise to the occasion to ensure that no foreign element can take advantage of the protest to destabilize the country.

To achieve this, the NIS-CG has temporarily suspended all leave applications and charged officers to exercise utmost professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their duties. This measure is expected to remain in place until after the protest, with Nandap assuring all Nigerians of the Service’s preparedness to safeguard the Nation’s Borders towards enhanced national Security.

The government’s move is seen as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential threats to national security and maintain public order during the planned protests.
