Former Edo Deputy Governor Returns to APC, Supports Okpebholo

Reinstated Edo State Deputy Governor Shaibu Rejoins APC

Philip Shaibu, the newly reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has made a shocking decision by abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and returning to his original home, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a speech he delivered over the weekend at the Afemai World Congress in Detroit, Michigan, Shaibu claimed that he chose to leave the APC in the first place to support Godwin Obaseki’s re-election bid in 2016. However, he insisted that Obaseki’s attempts to undermine him as the preferred candidate for the gubernatorial office led to his latest return to the APC.

Shaibu shared stories of intimidation, harassment, and even impeachment, which he suffered as a result of his ambition to become governor. Nevertheless, he emphasized that God played a vital role in keeping him alive despite these adversities.

The politician’s dramatic shift in allegiance coincides with his pledge to support APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the forthcoming election. In fact, Shaibu deemed Okpebholo to be the best suited to govern Edo State compared to Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, whose bid enjoys the backing of his erstwhile ally, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Elections are indeed coming to Edo State, and these intriguing events may significantly shape the outcome of the contest.
