Tragedy Strikes Kinshasa as Seven Die in Music Concert Stampede

At least seven people have lost their lives in a stampede that occurred during a music concert in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The tragic event happened at the 80,000-capacity Stade des Martyrs stadium on Saturday, where popular Congolese gospel singer Mike Kalambayi was performing.

According to authorities, the stampede claimed seven lives, with some of the injured receiving intensive care. The cause of the chaos remains unclear, as authorities have not commented on the matter, citing an ongoing investigation. However, the local music management company that organized the event, Maajabu Gospel, claimed that the security services tried to neutralize some troublemakers, leading to the stampede.

The concert attracted an estimated 30,000 people, who were treated to performances by multiple musicians and pastors. Videos from the scene and the event show large crowds gathered outside the stadium, waiting to enter, and people rushing towards the center stage inside.

This incident is not an isolated one in Congo. The country has experienced similar stampedes in the past, often attributed to poor crowd control measures such as excessive use of force. Last October, 11 people died in a similar crush at the same stadium during a music concert.
