Rap Stars’ Political Controversies: Chief Keef and Swae Lee Weigh in on Trump and Kamala Harris
In a bizarre turn of events, Chief Keef has claimed that his Twitter account was hacked after posting a message of support for former President Donald Trump. The rapper’s page displayed a photo of himself at a White House podium with a simple message: "Trump 2024." However, it appears that the hack was short-lived, as Keef subsequently deleted the post and relayed a message to his fans on Instagram stating, "Twitter is hacked: Management."
This isn’t the first time Keef has expressed his support for Trump. In 2023, the former President of the United States was arrested for suspicion of trying to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. At the time, Keef reacted to the news by posting a photoshopped picture of Trump repping the Gangster Disciples, stating that "the Blacks" are going to have his back in prison.
Keef isn’t the only rap star to weigh in on politics. Swae Lee, one half of the duo Rae Sremmurd, recently gave his opinion on Trump’s political adversary, Vice President Kamala Harris. In a series of tweets, Swae Lee pleaded with his fans to "do research" on Harris, insisting that "she don’t do nothing but sign off on things against" her own people. The rapper went on to criticize Harris, stating, "The money we sent away every American citizen could’ve got minimal 200 grand think about that but I guess we don’t need the shit and y’all standing for Kamala. My black people she don’t do nothing but sign off on things against y’all… (us) voting just cuz you think she’s black is not going to end in your favor."
Swae Lee’s criticism of Harris comes amidst a heated election season, with many African Americans grappling with the decision of who to support in the polls. While some have thrown their support behind Harris, others are divided on the issue. As these debates continue to unfold, it remains to be seen how these rap stars will continue to shape the conversation on social media and beyond.
