Breaking News: 11 Hoodlums Arrested for Burning Part of Niger State Secretariat

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 hoodlums in connection with the burning of part of Tafa LGA secretariat during the #endbadgovernanceprotest on Thursday. The command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the hoodlums set fire to part of the secretariat, damaging two cars and vandalizing two others. They also stole valuables from the premises.

The statement read, "Following the nationwide protest slated to commence today, 1st August, 2024, unfortunately this morning at about 0930hrs, some miscreants from Tafa area of Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State and those of Hayin-Diko Gurara LGA of Niger State mobilised and stormed Tafa LGA Secretariat of Niger State located along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, Sabon-Wuse, Niger State."

The police and other security agencies responded to the scene, arresting 11 violent miscreants with different weapons, including firearms. Others were dispersed from the scene, and some of the looted items were recovered.

The police and other security agencies also responded to the blockage of the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, and old toll-gate, dispersing the hoodlums. The expressway has been reopened for motorists, and there is a free flow of traffic along the highway. An investigation into the violent act has commenced, with a view to arresting other fleeing miscreants.

The Niger State Police Command has urged citizens to remain calm and go about their daily activities peacefully, assuring them of their safety and security.
