Tinubu’s Government Urges Reconsideration of Planned Protest in Oyo State
A group of prominent leaders in Oyo State has made a passionate appeal to the youth in the state to reconsider a planned protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10.
The leaders, all former federal lawmakers, met with youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress, student leaders, and other critical stakeholders at the party’s permanent secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan. The meeting was designed to sensitise members of the APC on the potential ills of the planned protest and discuss the state of the nation.
Raji, one of the leaders, briefing journalists after the meeting, highlighted the dangers of the planned protest and emphasized the significant achievements of Tinubu’s government. These include Local Government autonomy, a comprehensive interest-free student loan scheme, and infrastructure development projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project and the Badagry-Sokoto Expressway.
Furthermore, Raji mentioned the extensive national rail network rehabilitation, which aims to enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and create job opportunities for the youth. He also emphasized that Tinubu’s administration has increased the national minimum wage to N70,000 to enhance purchasing power and promote a fairer distribution of wealth.
In addition, Raji recognized the efforts of Tinubu’s government in implementing initiatives such as the Youth Farm Initiative and the Agricultural Enhancement Programme, which have empowered young farmers with training, funding, and resources to contribute to the nation’s agricultural transformation and food security.
The leaders appealed to the youth to reconsider their decision to protest, urging them to acknowledge the genuine efforts of the current administration to improve the lives of all Nigerians. They assured that any grievances or suggestions would be communicated through appropriate channels and heard and addressed.
