Nigerian Actress Toke Makinwa Condemns Property Destruction During Nationwide Protest

Toke Makinwa, a well-known Nollywood actress and media personality, has expressed her disappointment and anger towards individuals who are taking advantage of the ongoing nationwide protest in Nigeria to destroy and vandalize properties belonging to fellow Nigerians.

The nationwide protest, which was sparked by the high level of hardship in the country, saw a cross-section of Nigerians take to the streets on Thursday to demand change. However, not all protesters remained peaceful, as some hoodlums reportedly took advantage of the situation to loot government and private properties in various parts of the country.

Reacting to the reports of property destruction, Toke Makinwa took to her social media handle to express her concerns. She emphasized that the individuals whose properties were being looted were also experiencing the same hardship as the protesters. Makinwa urged that destroying properties and stealing from fellow Nigerians in distress was unacceptable and sad.

In her statement, she wrote, "Destroying properties and stealing from your fellow Nigerians who are passing through the same hardship is not right at all. This is very sad." She also responded to a critic, clarifying that her tweet did not suggest that the protesters themselves were responsible for the crimes. Instead, she emphasized that the victims of the vandalism were also Nigerians who were suffering from the same hardships.

Makinwa’s sentiments have sparked widespread support on social media, with many Nigerians expressing their agreement with her condemnation of the property destruction. The protest, which was initially intended to address the country’s economic woes, has been marred by reports of violence, looting, and destruction of public and private properties.

As the situation continues to unfold, Toke Makinwa’s voice has added a important perspective to the debate, highlighting the need for responsible and peaceful protests that do not result in harm to others.
