Yobe State Governor Relaxes Curfew in Three Towns Following Improved Security
The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved a review in the curfew imposed on three towns in the state, Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru, due to a significant improvement in the security situation. The curfew has been relaxed by five hours, allowing residents to engage in lawful activities during the day.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the curfew is now relaxed from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, effective Sunday, August 4, 2024. During this period, residents are urged to carry out their lawful activities, while the period between 5:00 pm and 12:00 noon remains restricted.
The security agencies have been instructed to maintain their current level of security alertness and ensure that no space is given to hoodlums and miscreants to perpetrate any act of lawlessness during the curfew relaxation period. The government has also urged law-abiding citizens to comply with the relaxation and avoid any activities that could undermine the security situation.
The relaxation comes after a violent incident on August 1, 2024, which led to the imposition of a curfew in the towns. Unfortunately, three lives were lost, and property worth millions was destroyed during the unrest.
The development is seen as a positive step towards restoring normalcy in the affected towns, and residents are expected to welcome the relaxation with caution and responsible behavior.
