Tinubu’s Speech Leaves Nigerian Protest Leaders Disappointed

Nigerians woke up to a long-awaited speech from President Bola Tinubu on Sunday morning, but the publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, was left feeling disappointed and shocked. In a post on a social media platform, Momodu claimed that the President failed to address the demands made by ongoing protesters across the country.

The President’s speech came three days after the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests began, with protesters calling for changes to the country’s governance system, including a return of fuel subsidies, improvements in living standards, and solutions to escalating insecurity, among other demands.

Reacting to the speech, Momodu expressed his disapproval, stating that he had never believed Tinubu would grant any concessions to the protesters. According to Momodu, Tinubu has an "iron grip" on Lagos State, which has allowed him to maintain the status quo for the past 25 years.

Additionally, Momodu questioned the quality of advice Tinubu received from his advisors, many of whom are seen as loyal cronies from Lagos State. He concluded that it would have been unrealistic to expect Tinubu to change his ways, given his longstanding relationship with these advisors.

The post sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment and frustration with the President’s speech. Despite the setback, the protests continue, and it remains to be seen how Tinubu’s administration will respond to the calls for change.
