A shocking incident has unfolded in Egba, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, where a widow, Amina Isah, and her six family members, including children and grandchildren, fell sick after consuming a pap contaminated with chemicals.
According to sources, the family of seven, including Benjamin, Piko, Esther, Hassan Emmanuel, and one other child, were rushed to a private clinic in the community after they started vomiting and became unconscious.
Dr. Oyaje Sule, the proprietor of Dr. Gana Clinic, confirmed that the family was in his clinic, with three of the patients, including the widow, brought in unconscious. The doctor revealed that the family had mixed chemicals with guinea corn they were to plant, which they later used to make pap.
"It was after they took the pap this morning that they started vomiting and some of them were unconscious before they were rushed to my clinic," Dr. Sule said.
The family’s grandmother, who is elderly, was also affected, along with three of the children. Thankfully, all seven patients have been revived, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety and the dangers of consuming contaminated food.
