Lagos State Bans Protests, Says Gathering After President’s Address Illegal

Lagos Protest Ban: Nigerian President’s Speech Brings an End to Demonstration

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has announced that the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest has been banned. This comes after President Bola Tinubu addressed aggrieved protesters.

Fayoade made this statement while addressing journalists on Sunday. He emphasized that any gathering in the state is now unlawful and illegal, as President Tinubu has already addressed protesters’ concerns. According to Fayoade, the protest has been called off because of the President’s speech, with protesters looking forward to him meeting their demands.

Fayoade warned that there should be no more gatherings in Lagos or elsewhere, as any such meetings will be considered illegal and unlawful. He cautioned that since the protest has been called off, the full weight of the law will be applied.

The development has led to concerns about the future of the demonstration, which has been ongoing for several days. Protests have been a means of expressing discontent with the government, but the ban may hinder activists from continuing their peaceful demonstrations.

Sources have indicated that the President’s address is expected to address the main issues raised by protesters. Details of the meeting are awaited.
