BREAKING: Plateau State Government Imposes 24-Hour Curfew in Jos-Bukuru Metropolis

The Plateau State Government has announced a 24-hour curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in a bid to enhance security and maintain public order. The decision was taken following the breakdown of law and order in the area, which led to the exploitation of innocent citizens by unscrupulous individuals.

According to a statement signed by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, the curfew aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in the area. The governor emphasized that the measure is in the best interest of all citizens and urged everyone to comply fully.

The curfew was imposed after Governor Mutfwang consulted with state security agencies and reviewed the actions of those who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens. These individuals, armed with dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Areas, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.

Governor Mutfwang has directed security agencies to ensure total enforcement of the curfew across the area, warning those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

The governor also commended the peaceful conduct of citizens before, during, and after the nationwide protest, praising their commitment to maintaining peace and unity. He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly the clergy, for their unwavering support of government’s policies and programs.

As the situation unfolds, the governor called on relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order.

Residents of Jos-Bukuru metropolis are advised to comply with the curfew and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
