Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre after serving a six-month jail sentence for Naira abuse at a party. The 31-year-old was arrested on March 24 and sentenced in April without an option of fine.
Bobrisky’s release was eagerly anticipated by his fans, and a video of his release has gone viral. In the video, he appears in high spirits, dancing with his friends, actress Moyo Lawal and filmmaker Eniola Ajao, who awarded him the “Best Dressed Female Award” at the premiere of her movie.
Interestingly, Bobrisky has a new look, appearing fresh and lighter in complexion with fuller cheeks, surprising his fans. He was accompanied by his friends in a Mercedes-Benz G-class.
Speaking after his release, Bobrisky spoke out against the practice of spraying money, emphasizing that it’s not just violent crimes that can lead to imprisonment. He said, “Please, don’t spray money, or you’ll end up in jail. It’s not just criminal activities like killing that can send someone to prison, but also small offences.”
Bobrisky also stated that his time in prison was challenging, highlighting that inmates must strictly follow the rules and regulations of the Correctional Centre. He expressed his gratitude to his friends and fans, saying, “For now, I’m focusing on my friends, those who were there for me, and my fans. We need to party; I am super excited.”
When asked if Bobrisky would need to report back to the Correctional Centre, Rotimi Oladokun, spokesperson for the Lagos Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), said that if an inmate is released without conditions or terms attached, they are not required to report back.
Bobrisky’s case is similar to that of actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, who was convicted for spraying and trampling on new Naira notes at a Lagos wedding.
