US Women’s Basketball Team Dominates at Paris Olympics
The United States women’s basketball team has been on a roll at the Paris Olympics, winning all three of their group stage games by a cumulative 58 points. Their latest victory came against Germany, who became the 58th consecutive team to fall to the Americans.
The US team used their typical balanced lineup and pace of play to blow out the Germans 87-68. Jackie Young led the team in scoring with 19 points, while A’ja Wilson added 14. The Americans displayed impressive ball movement, recording 25 assists as a team, and were dominant defensively, forcing 23 turnovers and allowing just three offensive rebounds.
The US team’s dominance has set them up for a quarterfinal matchup against a team that finished third in their group. With their 61-game winning streak and eighth consecutive gold medal on the line, it’s hard to imagine anyone stopping them.
The American roster is stacked with talent, featuring nine former No. 1 overall picks in the WNBA Draft. Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Jewell Loyd, Breanna Stewart, Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, and Charli Collier are all part of the team.
While it’s possible that someone could come along and shock the world, it’s more likely that the US team will continue their retribution tour, as Teresa Weatherspoon once promised. The Americans will next play on Wednesday in Paris, and it’s hard to imagine anyone standing in their way.
The US women’s basketball team has been a force to be reckoned with at the Olympics, and it’s hard to see them slowing down anytime soon. With their talent, depth, and dominance, they’re the team to beat in Paris.
