D’Tigress Finds Silver Lining in Defeat, Beats Canada to Quarterfinals

D’Tigress Coach Credits Loss to France with Motivating Win Against Canada

In a thrilling turn of events at the 2024 Olympic Games, Nigeria’s D’Tigress national team has secured a quarter-final spot after defeating Canada 79-70. According to coach Rena Wakama, their earlier defeat to hosts France played a crucial role in their motivating win against Canada.

In their opening fixture, the six-time African champions stunned world number three Australia with a 75-62 victory. However, they were later beaten 75-54 by France, which Wakama has cited as a catalyst for their impressive turnaround.

"I am glad we did have that loss because we were able to get back to what we do best. Also, there’s no pressure now on us, and we have shown everyone that we deserve to be playing here," Wakama was quoted by FIBA.com.

With this win, Nigeria will now face reigning champions USA in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Despite the daunting task ahead, Wakama’s words of motivation are likely to boost her team’s morale, as they aim to continue their remarkable journey at the 2024 Olympic Games.
