Benue PDP Suspends Ex-Governor Samuel Ortom Over Anti-Party Activities

Benue PDP Suspends Ex-Governor Ortom and Three Others over Anti-Party Activities

A shocking turn of events has unfolded in Benue State, Nigeria, as the Benue Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its former governor, Samuel Ortom, and three other members over alleged anti-party activities. The suspensions were announced following a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP in Makurdi, the state capital.

In addition to Ortom, the others suspended include Mr. Isaac Mffor, the state Deputy Chairman of PDP, and Mr. Bemgba Iortyom, the state Publicity Secretary. The Media Consultant of the PDP, Cornelius Hwande, made the announcement in a statement released on Monday.

Ortom was suspended due to his choice of the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 election and his recent statement urging Benue PDP members to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election. Hwande also stated that the party’s Vice Chairman of Zone A, Azua Ashongo, was suspended for gross insubordination and indiscipline.

Meanwhile, Mffor and Iortyom were suspended due to their involvement in the alleged snatching of Congress materials meant for the conduct of last Saturday’s ward congresses in Buruku and Ushongo local government areas respectively.

The move by the Benue PDP is seen as a strong stance against internal sabotage and anti-party activities. As the party looks to revamp and strengthen its position in the state, these suspensions send a clear message that such behaviors will not be tolerated. The development has significant implications for the future of the PDP in Benue State, and the region at large.
