Nationwide Protests in North of Africa Turn Violent, Allegations of Government Overthrow Emerge

A former African lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has condemned the violence that has trailed nationwide protests in the North, alleging that the unrest was an attempt to overthrow the government. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani claimed that money and foreign flags, including Russian flags, were shared among the protesting youths in the northern region, revealing a deeper intention behind the demonstrations.

According to Sani, money was shared among the youths a day before the last protest, and Russian flags were also distributed, indicating that the protests were not simply about the government’s policies and programs. Instead, Sani believes that there was an attempt to create an atmosphere where the government would be overthrown. He urged citizens to speak out against such efforts.

The #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 and are expected to last for 10 days, have turned violent in some northern states, including Kano, Niger, and Jigawa, with casualties recorded. During the protests, some demonstrators waved Russian flags and called for military intervention.

The protests were initially sparked by demands for the reversal of unfavorable government policies. However, Sani’s allegations have cast a new light on the motivations behind the demonstrations, raising concerns about the potential destabilization of the region.

It is worth noting that the protests have sparked intense scrutiny, with some citizens abandoning their organizers to their fate after the violent turn the protests took.

This is not the first time the #EndBadGovernance protests have been marked by violence. The movement, which is demanding change in various areas, has seen instances of chaos and unrest in various parts of the region.

As the situation continues to unfold, international observers are closely watching the developments in the North, where tensions remain high.
