Google Rolls Out Android 14 August Security Patch for Pixel Smartphones

Google has released the Android 14 August Security Patch for its Pixel smartphones, bringing crucial security fixes for discovered vulnerabilities and improving performance stability. The update is now available for Pixel devices, including the latest Pixel 8 series and older handsets.

According to the Pixel Update bulletin for August, the security patch fixes multiple vulnerabilities, some of which could lead to "local escalation of privilege" without requiring additional execution privileges. Google has fixed 11 security problems with the patch dated August 1, while the August 5 patch resolves a total of 35 vulnerabilities.

The update also addresses issues such as screen flickering and boot loop problems. The changelog reveals that the patch fixes an issue that caused the screen to flicker in certain conditions, as well as the boot loop issue that occurred after a factory reset. Additionally, the user interface (UI) has been improved, particularly when switching between users with and without a set lock screen.

The August Security Patch can be downloaded on Pixel smartphones as an over-the-air (OTA) update, or via factory and OTA images on the Android website. The update was rolled out just a day after Google released the August 2024 Security Patch for its smartwatches, the Pixel Watch and Watch 2.

The list of compatible devices includes:

  • Google Pixel 8a
  • Google Pixel 8 Pro
  • Google Pixel 8
  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Google Pixel Tablet
  • Google Pixel 7a
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Google Pixel 7
  • Google Pixel 6a
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro
  • Google Pixel 6
  • Google Pixel 5a

Gadgets 360 staff members have verified the update’s availability on Pixel smartphones, and it is being rolled out in a gradual manner. Users who haven’t received the update yet may be able to download it on their handsets in the coming days.
