A Different World Sequel in the Works at Netflix
A new chapter in the world of Hillman College is on the horizon, as Netflix has announced the development of a sequel series to the classic 1980s sitcom A Different World. The news, reported by Deadline, has sent fans of the beloved show into a frenzy, with many eagerly awaiting the details of the upcoming project.
The sequel series, which is still in the early stages of development, will reportedly focus on Dwayne Cleophus Wayne, played by Kadeem Hardison, and Whitley Gilbert-Wayne, played by Jasmine Guy, and their youngest daughter, who is now a freshman at Hillman College. Original ADW creative team members, including Debbie Allen, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Tom Werner, will be involved in the project as executive producers, along with writer Felicia Pride and Mandy Summers.
For those who may not be familiar, A Different World originally debuted in September 1987 as a spinoff of the popular The Cosby Show, focusing on Denise Huxtable’s journey as she attended Hillman College. Over the years, the show became a staple of 1980s television, showcasing a diverse cast of characters and tackling relevant social issues.
This sequel news comes as no surprise, considering Netflix’s recent trend of reviving beloved sitcoms. That 90’s Show, a spin-off of That 70’s Show, is another example of the streaming giant’s efforts to bring back classic television.
Fans of the original show can rest assured that the new series will bring back the same wit, humor, and heart that made A Different World a beloved favorite. With its all-star creative team and focus on a new generation of characters, this sequel is sure to delight both old and new fans alike.
