As the February 25 and March 12 elections draw nearer, the apex socio‑cultural youth organization of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has called on the Federal Government to disband the Ebubeagu Security Network in Ebonyi State. The OYC made the appeal in a statement signed by its National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, as reported by Vanguard.

Igboayaka alleged that Ebubeagu is a militia group aligned with Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi and has become a source of terror for the local population. He warned that the militia “is now a terror to villagers and a tool of harassment, torture and intimidation against any perceived political enemy of Governor David Umahi.” He described the group’s activities as “worrisome and unbearable,” and cautioned that allowing Ebubeagu to continue operating could lead to a bloodbath during the upcoming elections.

Consequently, Igboayaka urged the Inspector‑General of Police, Usman Baba, and the heads of other security agencies to act swiftly to “banish” the Ebubeagu security network. He emphasized that the National Security Adviser, the National Director of the State Security Service, and the Inspector‑General of Police must recognize that Ebubeagu serves only Governor Umahi’s interests and poses a “time bomb” that threatens national peace and security. He concluded that it is essential to disband the militia before the 2023 general election, warning that “heads will roll in Ebonyi” if decisive action is not taken.
