Nigeria’s EndBadGovernance Protest Set to Reach Boiling Point with Saturday’s One-Million-Man March
In a bid to draw attention to the hardship plaguing Nigerian citizens, the Take It Back Movement, a key organizer of the EndBadGovernance nationwide protest, has announced plans for a massive one-million-man protest on Saturday across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to a statement released by Mr. Sanyaolu Juwon, National Coordinator of the movement, the protest will mark a critical milestone in the nationwide campaign, which began on August 1, 2024. Initially planned as a 10-day protest, the movement has evolved into a sustained and widespread movement, attracting participants from every corner of Nigeria and the diaspora.
The protest, which aims to bring the attention of governments at all levels to the plight of citizens, has already commenced on August 1 and is expected to conclude on Saturday. Despite being hijacked by criminal elements, the exercise has recorded a significant turnout across the country, with the northern states being particularly affected.
The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has appealed to the protesters to disperse and give his administration more time. However, the protest has continued to gather momentum, with demonstrations still taking place in Abuja, Kano, and other parts of the country.
As the country teeters on the brink of chaos, it remains to be seen whether the government will heed the demands of the protesters or continue to ignore their plight. One thing is certain, however: Saturday’s one-million-man march will be a defining moment in Nigeria’s quest for change.
