Plateau Larger House Advises Youths to Shun Nationwide Protests
A group, Plateau Larger House, has urged youths in the state to refrain from participating in the ongoing nationwide protests against the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The group’s Chairman, Michael Makwal, made the call during a meeting with youths from across the 17 Local Government Areas in Jos, the state capital.
Makwal’s advice comes amidst concerns over the violent turn taken by the protests in the state. According to DAILYPOST, some hoodlums hijacked the nationwide protests, leading to looting and destruction of public and private assets in the Jos metropolis. The state government subsequently imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
The Plateau Larger House Chairman emphasized that the group’s primary responsibility is to mentor and nurture the younger generation to protect the sanctity and integrity of Plateau. He warned that most peaceful protests often degenerate into a breakdown of law and order and destruction of lives and property.
Makwal instead urged youths to support the government’s efforts to provide dividends of democracy to the citizenry. He called on Plateau citizens, regardless of religious, political, or ethnic affiliations, to support the current administration to succeed.
"We have no other state to run to, so we have a responsibility to protect Plateau’s integrity and sanctity," Makwal advised.
The chairman also touched on the forthcoming Plateau Youth Council (PYC) elections, advising youths to adhere to zoning arrangements and elect individuals with proven integrity to the various offices.
The Plateau Larger House’s stance is a significant development in the ongoing protests, which have been marked by violence and destruction in several parts of the country. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the state government and other stakeholders will respond to the group’s advice.
