Nigerian Agency Director Exposes Widespread Debt and Corruption
In a shocking revelation, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has disclosed that she inherited a staggering debt of ₦3.2 billion and ₦500 million in unaccounted funds when she took office. This revelation is a stark reminder of the widespread corruption and financial mismanagement that plagues Nigeria.
According to Adeyeye, the debt and missing funds were sufficient to declare the agency bankrupt if it had happened in a developed country like the United States. She expressed her frustration, stating that she could have given up but instead saw an opportunity to turn things around. "I could have given up, but I saw an opportunity and I seized it," she said.
The NAFDAC director-general emphasized that the situation is a reflection of six decades of decadence in Nigeria. She pointed out that the country’s values have eroded, starting from the home, and that the breakdown of values has contributed to the country’s current state of financial instability.
Adeyeye also touched on the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, which highlighted the widespread hunger and hardship facing many Nigerians. She attributed the challenges to the country’s long history of decadence, stating that "the situation in our country is a reflection of a six-decade of decadence."
In a passionate plea, Adeyeye called for transparency and accountability in government, stating that corruption has eaten into the very fabric of Nigerian society. She emphasized that Nigeria cannot be blessed without a transparent society and that corruption is the biggest obstacle to the country’s progress.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with its numerous challenges, Adeyeye’s revelation serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for reform and accountability in the country’s leadership.
