Plateau State Government Relaxes Curfew in Jos-Bukuru Metropolis
In a statement released on Saturday, the Plateau State Government announced the further relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Jos-Bukuru metropolis following violent protests in the area. The decision was made after an advisory by security agencies reported an improved security situation in the region.
According to Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, the curfew will now be relaxed to allow for free movement between 9 am and 7 pm, effective Sunday. This adjustment aims to enable law-abiding citizens to continue with their economic activities while maintaining public order.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the government imposed the curfew on Sunday after looting of public and private assets by hoodlums in Jos North Local Government Area of the state. The miscreants hijacked the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest to perpetrate the criminal acts.
Gov. Caleb Mutfwang thanked all security agencies for effectively enforcing the curfew and assured that the government will continue to review the situation as it improves. The governor also urged residents within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity for prompt action.
With the relaxation of the curfew, residents are now permitted to move freely for their lawful activities between 9 am and 7 pm daily until further notice. This development is a positive step towards restoring normalcy to the affected area.
