Historic Victory for Mia Le Roux as She Becomes First Deaf Miss South Africa

Mia Le Roux has made history by emerging as the winner of the Miss South Africa 2024 beauty pageant. The 24-year-old undergraduate student defeated nine other predominantly black models to claim the coveted crown on Saturday.

This milestone achievement marks a significant breakthrough for Le Roux, who is not only the first deaf person to be crowned Miss South Africa but also a descendant of the Dutch settlers in South Africa, known as the Boers, who formed the minority white population. Le Roux’s win is a testament to her determination and perseverance, and her selection as the winner is a fitting recognition of her outstanding qualities.

As part of her prize, Le Roux will receive a cash award of $53,371 (R1 million), a Mercedes Benz car, and a luxury fully furnished apartment. Her future plans include focusing on pet projects that benefit persons living with disabilities, reflecting her commitment to making a positive impact in her community.

Le Roux’s emergence as the winner follows the withdrawal of Nigerian-affiliated model, Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, who was at the center of a nationality row in July. Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican heritage, had qualified for the round of 16 of the Miss South Africa beauty pageant but withdrew from the competition after the South African Department of Home Affairs alleged that her mother may have committed fraud and identity theft.

Le Roux’s win is a significant moment in the history of the Miss South Africa pageant, and her achievement is sure to inspire countless individuals around the world. Congratulations to Mia Le Roux on this remarkable achievement!
