Biden Warns of Trump’s "Genuine Danger" to American Security
In his first TV interview since dropping out of the White House race, President Joe Biden warned that Republican candidate Donald Trump posed a "genuine danger" to American security. The 81-year-old president, who has kept a low profile since withdrawing from the election, urged Americans to "watch what happens" if Trump wins the election.
During the pre-taped interview with CBS News, Biden emphasized the importance of maintaining democracy, stating, "We’re at an inflection point in world history… and democracy is the key." He also expressed his regret over his debate performance, admitting that he "failed" but stressing that he has "no serious problem" health-wise.
Biden explained his decision to withdraw from the election, citing concerns from Democratic Party politicians that he would damage their chances of re-election. His only priority, he said, was to prevent Trump from returning to power. The outgoing president vowed to campaign hard for Vice President Kamala Harris, who has replaced him on the ballot.
Trump’s light campaign schedule has come under scrutiny, with his running mate, J.D. Vance, appearing on several Sunday morning political talk shows to field questions on various topics. In one testy exchange, Vance complained about being asked six questions about abortion, to which CBS’s Margaret Brennan responded, "I’m still trying to get a clear answer."
The interview marked Biden’s first public appearance since his exit from the election, and his comments were seen as a warning to Americans about the potential consequences of Trump’s presidency.
