Kidnapping Crisis Rocks Nasarawa State, Assembly Urges Security Agencies to Act

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has expressed grave concern over the rising rate of kidnapping in various communities across the state. The Assembly has directed local government council chairmen to organize security summits within two weeks to tackle the menace.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Muhammad Oyanki, raised the alarm on the high rate of kidnapping, citing the alarming number of daily kidnappings in his constituency. He moved a motion under matter of public interest, which was deliberated upon by members during plenary on Monday in Lafia.

Speaker Danladi Jatau commended Governor Abdullahi Sule and security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity in the state. However, he urged security agencies to be more committed and restrategize to tackle kidnapping. He also emphasized the need for the anti-kidnapping law passed by the Assembly to be strictly obeyed and anyone found wanting should be dealt with accordingly.

Members of the Assembly, including Luka Zhekaba, Yakubu Azara, Jacob Ajegana, and others, urged security agencies to be more committed to their duties in order to protect lives and property. They noted that people in their constituencies could no longer sleep peacefully at night for fear of being kidnapped.

The Assembly’s resolution calls on the people to cooperate and support security agencies with useful information that would help in tackling kidnapping and other criminal acts in the state. The Assembly also urged security agencies to adopt technology to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Oyanki lamented that kidnapping had become a serious problem in his constituency, with people being kidnapped daily and night. He urged the Assembly to find a solution to the incessant kidnapping in the state to save the lives of their people.

The Assembly’s resolve to tackle the kidnapping crisis is a welcome development, and it is hoped that the efforts will yield positive results in the state.
