MG Windsor EV Launching in India Next Month with Rebated Wuling Cloud Spec
The Morris Garages Windsor electric vehicle (EV) is finally making its debut in India on September 11, marking the first launch of the company since the establishment of JSW MG Motor India as a joint venture between India’s JSW Group and China-based SAIC Motor. The company’s latest offering is expected to create a stir in the Indian EV market, considering it’s a rebadged version of the popular Wuling Cloud EV, which has gained popularity in Indonesia and other international markets.
Pricing and Key Features
The Wuling Cloud EV is priced at IDR 398 million (around Rs. 21 lakh) in Indonesia, and it’s expected to retain a similar pricing structure in India, with speculation suggesting the base model could be priced around Rs. 20 lakh. This positioning could make the MG Windsor EV a strong competitor in the Indian market, where it will rival vehicles such as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400.
The MG Windsor EV is expected to feature a 4.3m length, 1,850mm width, and 1,652mm height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase, making it longer and wider than the MG ZS EV. The vehicle will be a five-seater configuration with an MPV-like shape.
Battery Options and Powertrain
The Indonesian variant of the Wuling Cloud EV comes with two battery options: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh, claiming ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. It’s unclear which variant will be available in India, but the vehicle may be powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134bhp and 200Nm of torque.
Features and Safety
The MG Windsor EV will be equipped with features such as 135-degree reclining seats dubbed “aero lounge”, dual-tone interiors with black upholstery, space for three passengers at the back and rear AC vents, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, an integrated spoiler, big alloy wheels, and flush-fitting door handles. The vehicle’s interior will be headlined by a panoramic sunroof, alongside a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a floating design and 360-degree camera.
In terms of safety, the MG Windsor EV is expected to be loaded with advanced safety features, including ABS, EBD, ESP, Hill-Hold assist, four airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electric parking brake with auto hold functionality. Additionally, MG may also offer an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite with features like lane departure warning, autonomous cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
Stay tuned for further updates on the MG Windsor EV’s launch in India!
