Nigeria’s Newest Smart School Set to Commence Operations in September

Newly Constructed Smart School in Karshi to Commence Academic Activities in September

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has announced that the newly constructed smart school in the Karshi area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will commence academic activities in September. The minister made this disclosure during an inspection of the Universal Basic Education Commission’s (UBEC) Model Smart School in the satellite town of Karshi, Abuja.

The smart school, which has boarding facilities for 700 students, combines vocational and education learning, making learning interactive and helping to nurture thinking and creativity. The school is part of the Federal Government’s initiative to digitize learning from early childhood to basic education.

Mamman allayed fears that the new school would replicate the issues that arose with the almajiri schools built by the previous administration, stating that the initiative is a legacy of the Federal Government to digitize learning. He emphasized that the school will improve access to quality teaching and learning materials and increase the capacity of teachers in the development and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) content.

The minister also commended the Almajiri Commission for identifying 11,000 young children in the FCT who will be enrolled in the school by September. He urged teachers to take their responsibility seriously, as the school will serve as a training ground for them.

Earlier, the Emir of Karshi, Alhaji Ismail Muhammed, assured the Federal Government of the safety of the school. Muhammed pledged to deploy a vigilante group to secure the learners.

The new smart school is a significant development in the education sector, and it is expected to make a positive impact on the learning outcomes of students in the FCT.
