Tinubu Chairs First Council of State Meeting Since Assumption of Office

Nigeria’s Council of State Meets for the First Time Under President Tinubu’s Leadership

Abuja, Nigeria – The Council of State, Nigeria’s highest advisory body, has convened for the first time since President Bola Tinubu took office in May last year. The meeting, which began at noon at the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, is a significant gathering of top officials, including former presidents and state governors.

Former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan are physically present at the meeting, while former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar are attending virtually. The 36 state governors, led by President Tinubu, are also in attendance.

The agenda of the meeting is unclear, but sources suggest that the council will discuss the state of the economy and the recent protests against hunger and hardship. This is the first meeting of the Council of State since President Tinubu took office, and it is expected to set the tone for his administration’s priorities.

President Buhari, who left office on May 29, has been visiting the seat of power since his departure. The council last met on February 10, 2023, ahead of the general elections.

The meeting is a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, and its outcome is eagerly anticipated by the public.
