Tinubu Meets Buhari in First Council of State Meeting Despite Protests

Nigerian Politician Omoyele Sowore Slams Meeting between President Tinubu and Predecessor Buhari

In a recent meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu held a gathering with his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, marking the first Council of State meeting presided over by Tinubu since taking office. The meeting, which was attended by former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari, as well as ex-Military Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, who joined virtually, was met with criticism from activist politician Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, described the meeting as a “failure meeting with a failure.” In a social media post, he wrote: “Today in Abuja at the Presidential Villa, a former failed President @MBuhari had a meeting with the current failed President @officialABAT.”

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, saw members of the Council of State condemn the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement against the current administration. Despite this, Sowore’s scathing remarks suggest that he does not believe the meeting was a productive or meaningful one.

The gathering marked a significant milestone in Tinubu’s presidency, as it was the first time he had presided over a Council of State meeting since taking office. However, Sowore’s comments have sparked debate about the effectiveness of the meeting and the leadership of the current administration.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the Nigerian government will respond to Sowore’s criticism and whether the meeting will have any lasting impact on the country’s political landscape.
