Tragedy Strikes in Jigawa State: Two Men Drown in Pond

A devastating incident occurred in Birninkudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Nigeria, when two men drowned in a pond while attempting to cross it on their way to a market in Waza village. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) recovered the remains of the victims, identified as Abubakar Alhaji, 20, and Abubakar Abdullahi, 25.

According to a statement issued by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Badaruddeen Tijjani, the unfortunate incident occurred on Monday at around 1100hrs. Tijjani explained that the victims were attempting to cross the pond when they drowned, and their bodies were recovered after a 48-minute search and rescue mission with the assistance of community members.

The remains were taken to the Waza health facility before being handed over to the families, who subsequently buried them according to Islamic rites. The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Muhammad Danjuma, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged parents to exercise extra caution, especially during the rainy season, due to the over-flooding of ponds and rivers.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caution and safety, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, and we hope that this incident will serve as a wake-up call for authorities to take necessary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
