Juan Soto Makes History with Three Home Runs in a Single Game
In a thrilling display of power, Juan Soto, the star outfielder for the New York Yankees, hit three home runs in a single game for the first time in his MLB career. The impressive feat came on Tuesday as the Yankees took on the Chicago White Sox.
Soto’s first home run came in the third inning, when he launched a 94 mph sinker from White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon into the bullpen beyond the left-field wall. The opposite-field shot gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
The 24-year-old slugger wasn’t done yet. In the fifth inning, Soto led off and worked the count in his favor to 3-1. Cannon’s fifth pitch of the at-bat was a cutter that caught the outside of the plate, and Soto sent the ball into the left-center-field bleachers for his second home run of the game.
By the time Soto faced White Sox reliever Fraser Ellard in the seventh inning, he had already secured a 3-0 Yankees lead. Ellard didn’t fare any better, as Soto turned on a 95 mph fastball and launched it into the right-field stands for his third home run of the game.
The solo shot extended New York’s lead to 4-0, and Soto finished the night 3-for-4 at the plate with three home runs, three runs scored, four RBI, and one walk.
Soto’s impressive performance comes after a season-plus of relatively muted production with the San Diego Padres. However, he has found his groove in New York, joining the upper-echelon of baseball’s most potent hitters. With a.302/.431/.586 slash line, 30 home runs, and 82 RBI in 116 games, Soto is back to his dominant form.
Batting ahead of Aaron Judge, Soto has formed a formidable tandem with the Yankees’ star right fielder. The two have combined to make the Yankees’ lineup nearly unstoppable, and their partnership is sure to continue to produce exciting results in the coming weeks.
