Rivers APC’s Publicity Secretary Urges Sacked Chairman to End Misleading Protests
In a recent post on his official Facebook page, Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has called on Tony Okocha, the recently sacked chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, to cease using protests to mislead the public.
Okocha had led a solidarity protest in support of President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt. However, Nwauju, in his post, stated that Okocha’s action, given his lack of moral authority to lead such protests or rallies, amounts to deliberate deception and public nuisance.
Referring to the judgment that led to Okocha’s removal, Nwauju emphasized his belief in the benevolence of God, asserting that no amount of struggle or conflict can alter what is predestined for anyone. He also accused Okocha of exploiting his narrative of supporting President Tinubu to manipulate the position of Commander-in-Chief for personal political gain and to garner sympathy.
Furthermore, Nwauju called on all supporters of constitutional democracy and the rule of law to respect the valid court judgment while exercising their right to appeal, including up to the Supreme Court. He also reminded Okocha of how he once jointly filed a lawsuit in the same high court that he now criticizes, seeking to prevent the APC from fielding candidates in the 2019 elections.
Nwauju’s statement is seen as a response to Okocha’s protest and a call to end the use of public protests for personal gain. The development comes at a time when the APC is facing internal conflicts and leadership challenges in Rivers State.
