PDP Inaugurates 17-Member Caretaker Committee for Benue State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a crucial step towards resolving its internal crises in Benue State by inaugurating a 17-member Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the party for the next 90 days. The committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Wednesday by the acting National Chairman of the party, Mr. Umar Damagum.

The caretaker committee has been tasked with reconciling aggrieved members and various PDP groups in the state, as well as conducting credible congresses to usher in inclusive party executives. Damagum urged the committee members to avoid sentiment and put the party above personal interests, adding that the party’s National Working Committee took prompt action to constitute the committee.

The committee chairman, Sen. Napoleon Balli, pledged that the committee would be fair to all stakeholders and work towards resolving the party’s internal crises. He urged members of the PDP in the state to cooperate with the committee members to achieve the task assigned to them by the party.

The caretaker committee was composed in response to the expiration of the state executive of the party on August 8, which created a vacuum that needed to be filled. The party had already conducted ward congresses in the state before it was stopped by a court injunction last week from conducting local government congresses in six LGs, four in Zone B and two in Zone C.

The committee will focus on resolving the party’s internal crises, which have contributed to the PDP’s loss of elections in Benue State. The party’s National Organising Secretary, Mr. Umar Bature, said that the committee’s primary task is to ensure that the party is united and strong, and that the people of Benue State are allowed to select their leaders.

The PDP’s National Working Committee has been commended for taking prompt action to constitute the caretaker committee, and the party’s Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has urged the committee members to be fair and provide a level playing field for all contestants in the ongoing process of congress in the state.

The caretaker committee will have a significant impact on the future of the PDP in Benue State, and it is expected to work tirelessly to resolve the party’s internal crises and ensure that the party is united and strong.
